Speisekammer is a must-stop for me each time Chun P and I are visiting family in Alameda. Just last Saturday we stopped by for appetizers after our nephew's birthday party down the street at Subpar Mini Golf. We opted for the Kleine Nurnberger Bratwurstchen, Pommes mit 3 Sossen, and a small German salad of shredded cabbage, dill cucumber, pickled beet and marinated carrots. I heard from a relative that Speisekammer is under new management, and the biggest change I noticed is that there are far too few servers. Our server had a ginormous section - and had to cover both tables outside the restaurant and indoors. The food quality and friendliness is there - management just needs to hire more servers.

I have been a long time patron of the German restaurant Teskes, in Dwtwn San Jose. After moving to San Leandro, we were on the hunt for a new traditional German restaurant. Speisekammer was the answer we'd been looking for. Parking can be tricky- it's Alameda after all. But once the car was settled. And we were warmly welcomed inside, it was all uphill from there. We enjoyed two appetizers: Small Potato Pancakes (2) and the pretzel with beer cheese. Both were Devine! The potato was put through like a ricer or something- super fine. Made it nice and crispy on the outside/edges. Beer cheese was amazing- so rich! Only downside to the appetizers were they were not very hot- like warm at best. But flavor was great! Hubby got the bratwurst plate with mashed potatoes, and the best sauerkraut we'd EVER had. If that came from a jar or can- is call you a liar. It was tangy, a little sweet, and just to die for. Being a long time Teskes fan- I had to try their jagerschnitzel! It was fantastic! The spatzel didn't have a sauce, but the mushroom sauce made it all work so well together. We ended with the very decadent German Chocolate Cake. So, so delicious. Can't wait to go back. And bring my dad along- another longtime Teske's fan. I think we'll make a convert out of him too.

ordered: gegrillte fleishplatte schnitzel with spaetzle potato pancakes pretzel with beer cheese sauce grilled plate was probably my favorite and i liked the pickled veggies that came with our meal as well parking lot to the right of the restaurant is small (5ish spots) and a small one way alley, easiest way is to reverse out (onto a not busy street) servers were friendly but food took a minute to come out if you want to make a reservation use their opentable through google not the link from their website!

This was my first visit, and I was very impressed! The place is small looking but has a large indoor series of areas for dining. Although facing a busy street, we sat on the patio, which was very relaxed and relatively quiet. The menu was extensive, and the food options were too many, so I basically decided on two new dishes for me: the potato pancakes (Reibekuchen) and Gratinierte Kasespatzle - mac 'n cheese - with cheddar-parmesan cheese and caramelized onions, with a side salad for the large size. Salad was a combination German salad with shredded cabbage, dill cucumber, pickled red beets and marinated carrots. One of my companions had the Lachs Croquettes, salmon coquettes on a bed of mixed greens, and the other had the Aufschnittplätte, which is a combination of assorted German cold cuts, including mortadella with pistachios, soppressata, coppa, salami, summer sausage with herbed goat cheese, onions, cornichons and sliced baguette. Of course, we also enjoyed three German draft beers: the HB lager, the Paulanger, and the Spaten lager. All were coldly delicious! The potato pancakes came first, and I expected them to be shredded flat, but they were more like hash brown sheds but smaller. Tasty fried and served with apple sauce on the side for dipping or spreading. The rest of the food came shortly after. The servings were impressive, for both the plating and volume. The salad was delicious, and I mixed the veggies for each bite. The mac 'n cheese was different, very creamy yet subtle in its cheese. One person at home had a taste of the half I took home and called it "bland." I liked it, but if y9ou are used to mac 'n cheese with sharp cheddar, for example, it may be too "subtle" for you. But again, I liked it very much as a change. I did not taste the other plates, except for the herbed goat cheese. Wow. VERY creamy and with a strong herbal taste, which I could only think of as a rosemary type - maybe juniper? Odd that I could not place the herb(s) but very good. And if you have a dog, please bring it! Not only are they welcome, but they also have a menu dinner dish for dogs! It is dog food but sounds fancier in German. The service was attentive and friendly, and added to a great overall experience. If you have not tried German food, this is a good place to break yourself in slowly. You'll tell me "Vielen dank für den vorshlag!"

First visit and I loved this restaurant!! Service was really friendly. They have a great outdoor patio that is pet friendly. The food portions are generous and delicious. I can't wait to return every time I visit Alameda. They had a great selection of German beers. I really loved the grapefruit beer. They also have a kids menu and it is kid friendly. I loved the crispy potato pancakes, my favorite item but everything we tried tasted good. I really appreciated the prompt and friendly server who patiently explained menu items to help us decide what items to try. The drink menu just was quite extensive with alcohol and sans alcohol options. Warning about the side private parking lot, it is very tight and I would recommend parking on the street .

It's a local bar and restaurant with German decors and cuisine. Indoor and outdoor seating. Food looks good and delicious. Curry sauce has a kick (good way) but schnitzel was a bit dry. Full bar with good variety of beers and cocktails. Big screen good for sports watching. Good for kids, groups, meetups and couples. Staff are responsive and friendly. Plenty of space and tables. Beautiful and comfortable bar stools. Food being served at the bar too. Parking might be a bit challenging due to lack of street parking. However there is a plaza across the street where you can park and walk to the restaurant

Food was outstanding and the beers were delicious. Our server had the entire back section to herself and it was packed. She was attentive and you could see clearly how hard she was working while likely short staffed. I got the meat platter with a size of spatzle and I would say it fed 2 1/2 of us in total for myself and two men. I want to return again to try their schnitzel!
